Eric Texier 'Saint Julien en Saint-Alban' 2018
Former nuclear scientist turned wine maker Éric Texier is the leading light of a small village appellation in the Northern Rhone called Brézeme. Whilst reading a book on the 'Grands Terroirs de France', he discovered that Syrah grown in Brezeme used to be some of the best in the world. He then made it his mission to revive the appellation and acquired a vineyard, working the land biodynamically. Since, he has extended his production throughout the Rhone Valley.
Lovely stuff. Lots of dark red fruits and blackberry with a little cherry lift. Of course theres a background of smoke, earth and leather which is to be expected but it's wonderfully integrated. 6-8-day maceration on skins lends just the right amount of tannin and the acidity gives this wine a lot of brightness. Another solid one from Texier.
